Introduction to Tibetan - Level 1:
The Language of Dharma
Five classes on the Tibetan alphabet and syllable

Classes will be recorded and available on-line
The course will cover the Tibetan alphabet and all the components of a
syllable, the building blocks of a Tibetan word. We will learn to read,
write and speak Tibetan words with suffixes, prefixes, superscripts and
subscripts and will begin to build a vocabulary of basic Dharma terminology.
We will approach the study of this sacred language as a practice of Dharma
and as a vehicle for deeper understanding of Buddhist thought.

Instructors:
Tenzin Jesse has studied Tibetan with teachers in the Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu and Gelug traditions, including
Dr. Jeffrey Schoening, Lama Yeshe Wangmo and the Pullahari Language Program, as well as others. She has written a
’student-friendly textbook for the study of Tibetan and is currently engaged in several translation projects.
She has recently published a new translation of the King of Prayers.
Having spent 20 years immersed in the languages of Asia, Ven.
Dhammadinna speaks Burmese, Tibetan, Thai and
Spanish and studied Classical Tibetan with Tenzin Jesse, Gavin Kilty, Jim Scott and others.
They believe that Tibetan study should be pure fun!
